Mouille Point
About Mouille Point Blinds: Specified for Table Bay and the Body Corporate
Mouille Point Blinds measures, makes and fits window and balcony shading along this stretch of the Atlantic Seaboard. Here is what that involves, where it reaches, how a job runs in a sectional-title building, and what it will not claim.
A working lighthouse, a low skyline and nothing to break the wind
Mouille Point runs along a short stretch of reclaimed shoreline, its promenade curving past the lighthouse that has guided ships past this part of Table Bay since 1824. Most of its apartment blocks sit low and wide, three to six storeys, so a good number of sea-facing units hold a clean line across the water to Robben Island. The trade-off is exposure: the promenade is flat and open, summer brings the south-easter along the coast and winter brings north-westerly storms off open water with nothing between them and the glass, and salt spray reaches balconies on a windy day. A sea-facing lounge, a street-facing bedroom and a balcony each get their own answer in writing, from one consultant on one visit.
The collection covers sunscreen, blockout and double roller blinds, day/night blinds, aluminium venetians, cellular honeycomb blinds, vertical and panel blinds, concealed ceiling-recess blinds, shaped and skylight blinds, external venetians, roller shutters, zip screens and motorised automation, with repairs to existing blinds. Anything mounted outside carries powder-coated, seaside-rated aluminium and sealed cassettes, chain and cord tensioners are fitted as standard, and battery motorisation is the default wherever a retrofit makes more sense than chasing walls.
Mouille Point and the rest of this stretch of coast
Mouille Point is home ground, and the same process runs along the neighbouring Atlantic Seaboard, adjusted for what each building and each body corporate actually needs. Green Point, the inland neighbour, splits between units with a slice of Table Bay over the rooftops and units facing the urban park, with a denser mix of building ages. Sea Point is the high-rise continuation of the promenade, Art Deco walk-ups beside mid-century towers, with mostly west-facing glass and wind that hits harder with every floor. Fresnaye is freestanding houses on the lower slope of Lion's Head, where winter sun on north-facing glass is the question and there is no body corporate to satisfy. Bantry Bay is cliffside apartments with the most open exposure to spray and wind on this coast.
The route through a job never varies
You send the form or use the chat, telling us the rooms, the products you are considering and which building you are in, and one of our expert consultants will contact you shortly to arrange a free in-home measure. That visit checks the salt exposure and your building's rules as carefully as it measures the glass. Every opening is measured by hand, real fabric swatches are held against your own window in bay light, and fabric, openness and control get settled room by room.
A written quote follows with each window itemised and the lead time written in from the start, so what you pay matches what you were shown, and nothing is manufactured until you have approved it. Where an exterior fitting needs body-corporate or managing-agent sign-off, that step is built into the timeline from the first call rather than discovered at install. Then everything is made to those measurements and fitted by our own team, with lift access and sign-in arranged in advance.
What this service does not claim
It does not guess prices; the figure for each window follows the free measure on paper. Its roller shutters give full external sun, glare and privacy control from outside the glass and are shading, not security. It does not call any hardware on this coast maintenance-free; even seaside-rated fittings want an occasional fresh-water rinse. It does not sell fabric to cover a building problem: a blind reduces condensation on glass but does nothing for a damp wall or a failed window seal, which are repairs for a qualified professional. And whether something may go on the outside of your building is your trustees' call; what we can do is put the specification in writing so you have something solid to hand over.
At Eye Level With the Promenade, the free guide
The guide is written for flats that sit level with a public seafront walk: why an open-weave sunscreen reverses and becomes see-through once the room lights go on after dark, the three separate directions a sea-facing room is lit from, how far the sunset point travels along the horizon between December and June, the north-westerly winter gale that comes straight into Table Bay, salt and the one small job we ask of you, cold single-glazed glass in July, and what a Beach Road specification looks like room by room. Its dates, bearings and history come from public references listed at the foot so you can check them, and it is free to read.
Getting in touch
Enquiries go through the on-page form or the chat on any page, and a consultant calls you directly, with no call centre and no obligation. The most useful thing you can tell us is the window that is wrong: the room, roughly which way it looks, and the time of day and year it stops working. Your details are used only to arrange that consultation call-back and are handled in line with POPIA, never shared beyond that and never sold.
