Blinds & awnings for Sea Point
The high-rise continuation of the same promenade — Cape Town's only stretch of coast with genuine tower-block density, and the same wind and salt brief scaled up several storeys.
Height changes the wind, not the direction
Sea Point sits between Signal Hill and the open Atlantic, with the high ground climbing away to the east and nothing to the west but water and sunset — the same open exposure Mouille Point gets, just carried up ten or fifteen storeys. The higher the unit, the harder the wind hits an exterior fitting, which is why a zip screen or an awning on a high floor here usually gets a stronger wind rating specified than the same product two storeys up the road.
Art Deco walk-ups next to 1960s-70s towers
Sea Point's building stock mixes older Art Deco apartment blocks from the 1930s with taller mid-century towers, almost all held under sectional title with a body corporate governing anything visible from outside. Window openings, sill depths and existing fixing points vary noticeably between an original Deco unit and a newer tower apartment, so we measure and spec each on its own terms rather than assuming a standard fit.
West-facing glass, and the sunset it's built for
Most Sea Point apartments face west across the Atlantic, taking the low, hard afternoon and evening sun the suburb's sunset views are known for. That's the same glare-management brief as Mouille Point's Table Bay-facing units, but pointed the other way — sunscreen roller blinds take the everyday glare, day/night blinds handle the windows that want privacy along with the light, and the units that get the worst of it move up to exterior shading.
- Higher wind ratings specified as floor height increases
- Art Deco walk-ups and mid-century towers measured individually
- West-facing glass specified for sustained afternoon and evening sun
- Body corporate approval checked before any exterior fitting is ordered
